DeepSpaceNews –– NASA Ames Research Center and SETI scientist Elisa Quintana discovered Kepler-186F on April 17, 2014. It was a very big deal. Kepler-186F turned out to be the very first validated Earth-size planet ever discovered that orbits its distant star in the habitable zone; at a distance that would allow liquid water to pool up on the planet’s surface.
