DeepSpaceNews — NASA today released a gorgeous 360 video that will take you to the center of the Milky Way.
The Galactic Center visualization, which is based on data from NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory and the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope, let’s you travel some 150,000 trillion miles to the center of our home galaxy.
Led by researchers at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, the visualization was originally created help astronomers recently discovered X-ray emissions deep within the Milky Way. The resulting 360 video was the centerpiece of a new research paper it released today.
If you don’t have a set of VR googles, watch the video in the YouTube app on your smartphone. Moving the phone about mimics the effect you’d get if you viewed it through Google Cardboard, Samsung Gear VR or other VR platforms.
